"WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU FEEL BLAH!"©
by Shirley M. Carolan, ATM
We all have days when we feel blah! ,,, when our energy feels zapped ... when nothing seems to go right ... when we feel we should have stayed in bed … when we can't even put our finger on why we feel out of sorts. Some folks have come up with their own remedies, e.g., binge-eating, sex, drinking, sleeping, marathobn TV watching, etc.
These remedies may relieve the short term effects of boredom, or feeling blah, and that's OK because most people get over the blahs and off the "pity pot" in short order without sinking into a deep abyss of depression (like I used to do) that can last days, weeks, or even months. But, they don't get to the root cause of why they feel blah and what positive action they take to correct it, and learn from it, so they can truly transcend it. Consequently, when the blahs return they use the same old useless remedies again, and never learn what important gift(s) the blah(s) is bringing them.
That's why I created a form for myself, that I now use in my self-help seminars and Journaling classes, aptly called "What's bugging me?" The form, while quite serious, has a whimsical feel in that small bugs are crossing the top of the page in a quizzical fashion, followed by several leading questions, which when answered truthfully, will help you zero in on your feelings, as well as what's bugging you, and why?
Once you've uncovered your true feelings, you can then take appropriate action, or not, to create balance and harmony once again in your life. Believe it or not, some people actually want to stay on the "pitty pot" because they have a vested interest in it, and like the attention they get from others who also don't know how to help them!
The last question you answer on the form asks you "What Can/Did I Learn From This?" (writing out and getting in touch with your true feelings). This last question and answer then become a Bonus tool to you because you can transfer this information directly into your Journal! It will help you to see what your patterns are, what serves you, what doesn't, who, and what, pushes your buttons, and what you can do about it if you so choose. Consider it a free lunch!
The form takes only a few minutes to complete and the answers may surprise you. Life is too short to stay in the blahs! If you would like to have a copy of this useful little form, which I give as a handout to all my Journaling class registrants, please contact me at carolcom@qwestinternet.net and I will be happy to e-mail it to you!
Meanwhile, I wish you bon jour!
